BRAD’S MISSION
The mission of the Brad Schoener Legacy Fund is to support the musical abilities and aspirations of instrumental music students in the Upper Darby School District through the funding of instruments, instruction, and experiences for interested and talented students who might not otherwise have the opportunities due to personal circumstances.
BELOVED MUSIC MAN OF UPPER DARBY
“Maybe God gave me the cancer so that I could bring more attention to my students – and if that’s the way it has to be, then I guess that’s why I’m still here…I’m not done yet.”
– Brad Schoener
Remembering Brad
In 2004 Brad Schoener was diagnosed with stage 4 leiomyosarcoma – a deadly rare soft tissue cancer. He was given 2-3 months to live – but Brad refused to accept that. For five years he did not miss a day of work until he finally ran out of clinical trials and he just couldn’t fight anymore. Brad passed away on March 19, 2009 – but he made it clear that he wanted to be remembered not for his fight against cancer — but for his love of his Upper Darby students and his music.
The Schoener MusicMan Academy was created from Brad's love for his Upper Darby students - and for anyone who has the desire to learn an instrument.
